 Running for Autism Minimize
Hello, my name is Chris Rouw and I am a parent of two children who have autism.  Our twins, who are now 8, were diagnosed with autism at 22 months old.  This October 18th I will be running the Des Moines Marathon to raise money for autism research.  This will be my fifth marathon and my third marathon I have run doing a fundraiser.  I will be raising money for the Autism Research Institute.  Here is some background on why I have chosen this organization for my fundraiser.

Our family's journey over the last 6 1/2 years has been a tremendous and challenging one.  Like all families who live with autism we have had many ups and downs.  We also have had the opportunity to meet so many great people who are dedicated to helping kids with autism.

Back in 2005 we decided to find a DAN! (Defeat Autism Now!) doctor to work with our kids.  We were blessed to find Dr. John Hicks in Wisconsin.  Dr. Hicks is an M.D. and attended several DAN! conferences, which are put on by the Autism Research Institute.  Dr. Hicks and his staff at
Elementals Living provided the treatments and care our kids needed to restore their health.

Thanks to their help and years of treatments I am happy to say that our kids are happy and healthy!  They still have autism, and always will, but they are doing great in school, are hardly ever sick, and are happy and great kids!  Deciding to find a DAN! doctor was the best decision we have made for our kids.

About the Autism Research Institute

The Autism Research Institute was founded in 1969.  In 2007 a partnership between the Autism Society of America and the Autism Research Institute was formed to address the growing health crisis of autism in United States.

Here are some links to learn more about this fine organization.

Thank you for taking the time to consider sponsoring me in the 2009 Des Moines Marathon!
